The main focus of Black Ops 2 has been on the Xbox and PS3 versions, which has left a lot of PC version related questions unanswered. Luckily Treyarch has just released new information on the PC versions online security, matchmaking and dedicated servers:. Black Ops 2 PC is going to “feature” both matchmaking and dedicated servers, but not like in Modern Warfare 3. Last year’s MW3’s matchmaking was the only way to gain levels, but it was completely P2P Peer 2 Peer based, while the dedicated servers were unranked. The BO2 PC version is taking a step in the right direction, but it’s still a bit of a hit and miss: there won’t be dedicated servers available, but the matchmaking system will use them – this should in theory prevent majority of the hacks that are used in P2P matches. Due to this new system every public match and League Play will be done via matchmaking lobbies that run on dedicated servers.

In the last of many features revealed before Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 ‘s November 13 launch, we return to the all-important multiplayer. Though hardcore shooter fans can throw themselves into the competitive arena and find fun, players with less skill often feel intimidated by the mode. Spawning and being beaten into the ground, as it turns out, isn’t any fun. There’s a lot Treyarch wants to do to address that feeling, such as offering tiered League matches and improving matchmaking; however, that can’t guarantee things will draw people into a world they may despise out of intimidation.
Combat Training To increase confidence levels of players who see more Kill Cam than game, Treyarch has focused its attention on Combat Training, the mode meant to introduce players to multiplayer basics against AI controlled bots. In Black Ops 2 , Combat Training users can earn experience points and level their online soldier in a mode dubbed ‘Boot Camp.

Black Ops 2 technical review
Though a compelling single player element and engaging cooperative modes like Zombies have always been subheadings on the calling card of Call of Duty , the franchise’s real bread and butter is its multiplayer. Beyond keeping players engaged for dozens of hours upon end, the multiplayer helps prolong the length of the title long after the hour campaign has been completed.
However, with this year’s new Call of Duty , Black Ops 2 , hitting store shelves in just a few short weeks, a pretty substantial change is looming in the horizon. No, we’re not talking about the new features — like futuristic weaponry — that Treyarch is cooking up for gamers, but a new back-end change that should further improve the quality of that fan-favorite experience.
As confirmed by Treyarch’s David Vonderhaar over Twitter , Black Ops 2 multiplayer gamers will be matched with one another based on ping and latency.

Halo 4 is doing dang good. Dang good. It’s not dying. And it lost a lot of players for Matchmaking only when BO2, now it’s been pretty consistent.

But with there being so many ways to inflate your stats you can’t really take K. I’m gonna say for the first few weeks. Everyone is going to be going absolutely nuts in this game. Then Christmas, aka baby buffalo season, is when you wont have to sweat as much haha. It will no doubt have the team balancing mechanic which places the best player with the worst players so you still have to sweat your ass off to get the win.
There is no SBMM. The rest have all Connection Based Matchmaking.

Development for the game began soon after the release of Black Ops , with Activision promising that the follow-up would bring “meaningful innovation” to the Call of Duty franchise. Black Ops II is the first game in the series to feature futuristic warfare technology and the first to present branching storylines driven by player choice as well as selecting weapons before starting story mode missions. It also offers a 3D display option.
The game was officially revealed on May 1, , following a set of leaked information released during the previous months. Black Ops II received generally positive reviews from critics, with praise for its gameplay, story, multiplayer, and Zombies mode, but was criticized for its Strike Force missions. Black Ops II is the first Call of Duty video game to feature branching storylines, in which the player’s choice affects both the current mission and in turn, the overall course of the story.
Known as “Strike Force missions”, these branching storylines appear during the storyline and feature permanent death. The success or failure of these missions can have ramifications for the wider campaign storyline. Choosing one of the missions locks out the others unless the player begins a fresh campaign. To the casual observer — or maybe the forum-dwelling grump who delights in taking shots at Activision’s billion dollar franchise — this year’s Call of Duty will look a great deal like its forebears. Only this year, with Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 , the multiplayer battles take place in the unexplored near future, an online war fought between men and remote controlled drones. Black Ops 2 will, naturally, deliver the high-speed, explosive multiplayer slaughter that has made the series a bestseller.
There will be perks, weapon unlocks, and millions of bloody, glorious firefights — all running at a smooth 60 frames per second — between hardcore virtual soldiers. But developer Treyarch is reinventing many of the established systems in Black Ops 2 , the follow-up to the bestselling Call of Duty of all time with more than 25 million copies sold. It’s the studio’s fifth Call of Duty multiplayer effort and easily its biggest in scope.
Black Ops 2 will offer class customization that tosses out the traditional rules of Call of Duty multiplayer.
